A political campaign is an organized effort which seeks to influence the decision making process within a specific group. In democracies, political campaigns often refer to electoral campaigns, wherein representatives are chosen or referendums are decided. Political campaigns also include organized efforts to alter policy within any institution or organization. Politics is as old as humankind and is not limited to democratic or governmental institutions. Some examples of political campaigns are: the effort to execute or banish Socrates from Athens in the 5th century BC, the uprising of petty nobility against John of England in the 13th century, or the 2005 push to remove Michael Eisner from the helm of The Walt Disney Company. From Google News Search: "Political campaigns" Don't you think the political campaigns are costing too much money? Q. We are getting clobbered by hundreds of political adds on the major TV networks every day and not only is it annoying and way too much, but it must be costing billions! It's not only the presidential campaign but the campaigns for Senator, Representatives, etc and it seems like it's been going on for ages. Okay, most of this money comes from individual contributions, but do you think it would make sense to make a law that half of the money would go towards helping the taxpayers deal with the national debt. Do you think also that American campaigns should be more limited in time like in many European countries? Asked by Seven - Mon Oct 13 07:56:52 2008 - - 19 Answers - 0 Comments A. Yeah, they spend millions on air time to pander to us, so they can support bail outs that the people don't want, and that benefit the people that give them campaign money to buy the air time. Meanwhile, our economy tanks. Pretty rediculous huh? Answered by Republicrat - Mon Oct 13 08:03:30 2008 Is anyone else appalled at the amount of money spent on political campaigns? Q. Couldn't we focus on issues and not on commercial endorsements? Between McCain and Obama, over $1 BILLION has been raised/spent to finance the campaign. I think it is disgusting. Q. As opposed to helping offset auto industry benefit costs? Asked by Critical_rationalist - Wed Nov 19 19:13:58 2008 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments A. The unions are in much better financial shape to take care of their members benefit costs than the companies. But the company signed a contract for their part, and they need to live up to that legal and binding contract, just as the union has to live up to their sides. It's not the unions fault the company was stupid enough to sign a contract they couldn't live up to. But with the shape of their companies, that is only one of many stupid business decisions they have made.
