How does Political Corruption affect people?
Q. How does Political Corruption affect people? And the country as a whole?
Asked by Haine - Tue May 19 22:57:39 2009 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments
A. One of the main things is financially - political corruption enables people to stay in power ether on the state or national level . While in power they are able to direct tax payer money to their agenda & pet projects - which in turn keeps local donors happy and willing to overlook small indiscretions (aka bribes, slanted bids , etc) It effects the country when it is viewed as the norm instead of something to clean out of politics & costs the country billions of dollars each and every year in not so subtle pork projects to out&out payoffs of government contracts

Will the corporate controlled media ever expose Political corruption like Watergate again?
Q. In this day and age it seems as though the "free western media" has just become and extension or large corporations and the government for propaganda. Do you think the media will ever uncover something like Watergate again? Do you think that even if they uncover it somehow they will not actually publicize it? Do you think that corruption like that is in progress but the media won't even touch it? I could ask many more like that but...tell me what you think?

A. No I feel that they are too tied to business and they are carefully controlled by the mega corporations that own them. It will take a courageous blogger or Internet journalist to uncover something like Watergate again.

How come nobody is talking about McCain's own political corruption?
Q. He was a member of the Keating Five, , and the S&L bailout of the 80's. This is highly relevant to the failed GOP economic policies of today, leading to even bigger bailouts and more bank failures than ever before.
Asked by lentil - Thu Sep 11 13:59:35 2008 - - 21 Answers - 1 Comments
A. Because the plan of the republican party, was to put Palin in as a distraction. And guess what? It's working, but the only people fooled, are the same republican sheep, that voted for a corrupt President the last 2 elections. She's a mighty nice trinket, for them, and as long as McCain wears her on his arm, they won't care about him.

A. Political corruption during the Gilded Age (about the 1890s) usually refers to the political bosses and their party "machines." Politicians in this era bought votes by providing services to the people in their districts. For instance, they would meet new immigrants off the boats, and help them find places to live. In return they expected votes. George Washington Plunkitt was part of the Tammany Hall machine. He believed in "honest graft" and "dishonest graft." Honest graft was when he bought a parcel of land he knew the city was going to buy for a project, and then sell it to them at a huge profit. Dishonest graft was buying a parcel of land and then trying to get the city to use it for a project, and then sell it. The positive… [cont.]

A. One example I can think of is that the Legions were at a time mobilized against other Roman factions instead of a common enemy. For example. One emporer (forgot which) recalled most forces from Britain to come back to Rome in case he needed to wage civil war for his own personal gain. The later in the empire, the more this kind of stuff happened.

Do you believe term limits would limit political corruption?
Q. If so, what is the maximum time you believe politicians should serve and how do we, the people, get those term limits enacted?
Asked by Nathalie D - Wed Jun 28 23:40:58 2006 - - 19 Answers - 0 Comments
A. I would like to see term limits for all politicians. One six year term for president and congress. This would ensure a routine turnover of the people in power and, I believe, limit corruption. Not only that, but it would cause new ideas and beliefs/values to be constantly introduced making for a more accurate representation of the voters.

I Think Blood Laws Would End Political Corruption In The US. What do You Think?
Q. Many countries had blood laws ie many Catholic countries required any person holding ANY elective or political office to prove that they were pure Catholic for the previous 4 generations. Other sites have extremely different results based on the years THEY chose to 'study'...Why not check from 2005 to 2008?...You would definitely come up with different results. Do you understand that most people (especially in the media) have their own agenda? Louisiana was run by Democrats when Katrina hit. These states that you have listed have been both blue AND red at different times during the period your 'results' come from. Are they factoring in corrupt politicians that were never charged?...The Dems are good for that...Barney Frank is a prime example.

A world map of political corruption? Do you think it is accurate?
Q. This world map from Wikipedia's article about Political corruption, showing an index of political corruption in each country in the world. The information comes from the Corruption Perception Index, which is released by Transparency International. Green means very low corruption, and deep red means a high level of corruption: But do you think that is accurate? I think America should be in the green because we are NOT a corrupt government. We should be thankful that we have such a great leader of our nation.

A. I think it looks accurate. However Russia might be bit darker right now! America is where it should be. Unfortunately theres tons of money in politics, and that leads to corruption. The idea that govt officals can vote themselves pay raises is corrupt enough. Then people like Hastings who have been impeached who get elected to congress afterwards!

What is more dangerous to our Constitution, democracy, and way of life: political corruption or terrorism?
Q. How can our US Congress unite so quickly and easily to chastise FBI agents for legally investigating a corrupt congressman (William Jefferson) and be so divided on other issues? How in the world can they call the search un-Constitutional and a violation of the seperation of powers "doctrine" when the FBI agents (executive branch)conducted the investigation legally and obtained the warrant according to due process via U.S. District Court Judge Thomas Hogan (judicial branch)? So... which is more dangerous and degrading to our Constitution, freedom and way of life: political corruption or terrorism?
Asked by juan70ahr - Wed May 24 19:56:20 2006 - - 7 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Ultimately, political corruption is far more damaging. Terrorism is done by people from without who generally do not have power. Corruption comes from within. The best analogy I have heard for corruption is alcoholism. Most alcoholics have problems in the rest of their lives: marriage, family, work, school, legal problems. But when they stop drinking, the other problems begin to fix themselves. Money is to Washington what booze is to alcoholics. The only way to fix Washington is to get money out of the political system. Once that happens, all the other problems that seem so difficult can be fixed as well.
